Civil Engineer - Job Description

JOB LOCATION: Wailuku, Maui

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for assisting with professional civil engineering design, including preparing construction drawings, specifications, opinions of cost, schedules, and reports; obtaining government approvals; reviewing construction submittals; observing construction; and maintaining client relations on assigned project.

• Preparation of topographic, boundary, and subdivision maps.

• Preparation of preliminary engineering reports including analysis of grading and drainage, utility systems, and costs.

• Design of streets and subdivisions, including grading, water systems, wastewater systems, drainage systems, pavements, and walkways.

• Design of site improvements including grading, parking lots, driveways, and utility systems for commercial, industrial, or residential projects.

• Preparation of project manuals, schedules, and opinions of construction cost.

• Preparation of drainage reports including hydrologic and hydraulic computations.

• Review of construction submittals including manufacturer's data and specifications.

• Coordination with client and other consultants.

• Also responsible for surveying work, including research, computations, field surveys, and preparation of maps and descriptions.

• Other duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with document production and supervising engineering technicians.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in civil engineering.

• Licensed Professional Engineer or desire to obtain license.

• Knowledge of current civil engineering, land surveying, and construction principles and practices, and methods of construction document production.

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD, and general-purpose land surveying and civil engineering computation and design software.

• Able to plan and organize work, supervise technicians, prepare written letters, memos, and reports, and work harmoniously with others.
